If you should find yourself bored at the office, and need to kill an hour or so, PaperGuitar.com has a rather large collection of papercraft guitar templates to help spice up your desktop. Not quite as good as the real thing, but hey, they look cool.
Normaly a site such as Mygazines.com, who encourages users to “upload, share, and archive”, would have some serious issues with copyright laws. You can be most certain the law is pecking away at such a site however, Mygazines.com has an exception. They have registered their domain abroad and have kept their servers outside of the U.S. hence standing just outside the fire of United States copyright laws. Mygazines has some 16,000 users and about 1,200 magazine issues all available for free viewing or should you choose to sign up for an account, you may even download the full magazine. Once upon a time I remember hardly worrying about the cost of gasoline for my road-trips however, these days, I tend to think twice before going just about anywhere that’s over 20 miles let alone a 300 mile road-trip. But one should not let high gas prices discourage themselves from having a little weekend fun, and even despite the high price of gas, it still may not cost you as much as you might initially think. Before you throw out the notion of your next camping trip, try using “Drive Pricing” to calculate the cost of gas for that particular trip. Drive Pricing is a neat little site that incorporates Google Maps with a simple calc to estimate the total cost of gas for your road adventure. Simply supply it with a source and destination, zip, mpg, and gasoline grade, and it will plot your route as well as give you a price estimate for gas to help you find out if it REALLY is in fact worth the trip. For our second installment of our favorites we will turn to IMPS - The Relentless, which we spotted a few years ago from browsing through the Star Wars FanFilms site. So far, at the time of this post, they have still only released chapter 1 of their saga. They mix a fair amount of comedy with killer near professional quality special effects to create one of the, if not THE best fan film we have witnessed to-date.
Over the next few days we will be sharing with you some of our favorite sites that we have come across over the years. To kick it off we will start with Sequential Pictures (formerly Imitation Milk). This has got to be one of my most dearly favorite sources of sheer geek entertainment over the years. These guys give new meaning to geek and comedy from their early spoof of “Star Wars Episode II - The menace strikes back” to their more recent short films Like the musical spoof of “Your Shit is weak”. Odds are they have a video that will tickle the fancy of the geek in you. Link to Sequential Pictures Movies…
Check out this online image editor which allows you to upload pictures from either your hard drive, or from a url and edit them in a photoshop type environment. Its not nearly as advanced and photoshop style programs however it does have some basic filters plus it supports multiple layers, and it will get you by in a pinch. Especially when you need to quickly change a co-workers desktop background to something embarrassing in a hurry. Best of all Sumopaint is free and as an added bonus, there is no need to have an account or login. Just access the url and begin creating. Link to Sumopaint…

Check out these amazing pictures by RetroNoob in which they combine classic video games with realworld pictures. A great idea for putting a retro spin on art. Below are a few of out favorites but be sure and stop by their gallery and check them all out where you can also get full resolution images of them and possibly make some desktop wallpapers out of them.
We posted this earlier over at our magic site (magic.phatus.com) but thought this one would be just as fitting on the Geek Site so here goes.
Brian Brushwood @ Scam School publishes a killer free podcast of tons of Bar Bets, Stunts, and tricks for all you social bodies out there. Below are a few embeds of some of our favorite episodes but be sure and stop by the Scam School site where they have many many more. A great site for the bar goer.
Episode 8 - NIM Effect: “Play a game with your friend that you can always win”
Episode 5 - How to Stick Your Friends to the Bar Effect: “This clever trick uses a pint of beer and two willing thumbs to handcuff your friend (or enemy) to the bar, while you take his keys, wallet, girlfriend and more”.
Episode 6 - The Lift Effect: “Defying all laws of leverage, you summon a ridiculous amount of strength”. (very funny)
TVChannelsFree has a nice selection of free TV channels that stream right into your browser for your entertainment. For instance, ESPN, Disney, and one of my favorites Discovery Science, just to name a few. Some of the channels will require you to install a 3rd party plugin, while others just simply use Quicktime or Flash. You will also need a fairly high speed connection (around 100kb/s or so).
