Not quite as good or rewarding as the real thing but just as much a waste of time, digital bubble wrap will temporarily suppress your compulsive nature without the mess (although the mess is half of the reward). Put this baby on maniac mode and go nuts. Link to the goods…

Check out these amazing pictures by RetroNoob in which they combine classic video games with realworld pictures. A great idea for putting a retro spin on art. If you have the time and the cajones, gmoon @ instructables has a hell of a DIY tutorial for building your own Tube Guitar Amplifier along with nice schematices for you do dive into. It is a very well put together and extensive Instructable. Below is a video of him playing through his custom amp and it sounds quite nice. This one is well over my head but some of you serious DIYers out there should get a kick out of it.
We posted this earlier over at our magic site (magic.phatus.com) but thought this one would be just as fitting on the Geek Site so here goes.

Here’s a clever way to clip your cash together. I’ve never been a huge fan of money clips, however I may have to give this one a try. Amron is selling a kit for one however it appears to be nothing more than a neodymium magnet and a steel plate duct taped to a bill. Simple and effective. Link to AmronExperimental….
YES! FINALLY!! Its about friggin time. Ive been waiting many many a year for this moment. Now I can sleep sound at night knowing that next spring will hold the release of the new UFC video game. Ohhh and what a game its gonna be. Best of all it appears that there will be no HUD or power meter so the fighters will not wear down until they are either tapped out or KO’d. Finally a decent MMA game. Back when UFC: Sudden Impact came out in 2004, Dana White had just taken over the UFC, but the game was released before the previous ownership’s contract had expired. Since then, White signed a contract with THQ who has been working away on an epic UFC game ever since. And any of you UFC fans out there know that if Dana White has his hands in something, it typically turns to gold, so prepare for greatness. Can’t wait for this one. Check out the trailer below.
EaKLondon @ Instructables has created a clever little Altoids Tin project to bring a little light to your next emergency. In the huge subculture of Tin Modders, its hard to find an original one these days. This one is simple yet quite clever. I am already thinking of making one from citronella wax to provide light and ward off mosquitoes on my next camping/backpacking trip. Link to Instructable…

TVChannelsFree has a nice selection of free TV channels that stream right into your browser for your entertainment. For instance, ESPN, Disney, and one of my favorites Discovery Science, just to name a few. Some of the channels will require you to install a 3rd party plugin, while others just simply use Quicktime or Flash. You will also need a fairly high speed connection (around 100kb/s or so). Now you can enjoy the fun of Legos without the mess. Lego Digital Designer comes with a full suite of classic Lego bricks and even a few starter models to help get you started. The program weighs in a little on the heavy side at around 28mb but well worth it if you enjoy Legos. For Windows and Mac OS X.
NASA Believes they have found “evidence” of frozen water on mars via their Phoenix Lander. Apparently some small white clumps that were left behind in one of the trenches that the lander’s robotic arm had dug out earlier have mysteriously disappeared. To quote “It must be ice,” said Phoenix Principal Investigator Peter Smith of the University of Arizona, Tucson. “These little clumps completely disappearing over the course of a few days, that is perfect evidence that it’s ice. There had been some question whether the bright material was salt. Salt can’t do that.” Wooooh there folks. I think NASA may be jumping the gun just a little here. There have been many headlines surfacing over the last day claiming things like “Water found on Mars” and such. However, once again, our cynical nature prevents us from posting such a headline just yet. The white substance may in fact be water ice however, just because it vanished, is not “proof” of anything except that its gone. I’m definitely no scientist, but last I checked, Mars still had winds. In fact, below are 2 animations sent back from Phoenix herself recording the winds of Mars via it’s SSI. The left animation’s images were stretched to enhance contrast while the right animation highlights variations between each image and the next. Now again, I am no physicist but I do believe that wind is capable of blowing things (like salt) out of small trenches dug with a toy backhoe. And what about the many other elements that are white when frozen? I imagine this is most likely not the case however there are still many possibilities here. Lets get some of that white stuff in one of those easy bake ovens first, then we can start thinking about busting out the bubbly. More at NASA’s Phoenix Mission Homepage…

Imagine having the ability to produce a flash of light that lasts only billionths of billionth of a second and then taking a photograph of that flash. What would that photograph look like? Imagine no more. Researchers at Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany have recently done just that by creating the Fastest Ever Flashgun which can produce a laser beam pulse that is only 2.5 femtoseconds (billionths of billionth of a second). Now that’s fast! More @ NewScientist.com…
