Read at work is as simple and self explanatory as its title. Not that we would encourage such a thing however, hey, its your time, right. Once in the site, it will take you into a full-screen interface that looks almost exactly like a windows xp operating system with a moderately small collection of classic stories that are presented in a microsoft powerpoint fassion. In fact it is quite sneaky as the presentations have graphs, flowcharts and all sorts of other ways to discuise the fact that you are reading a story. I was even quite happy to see that one of the stories there is one of my all time favorite classics “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. Link…

One of my favorite books of all time has to be “The Beach” by Alex Garland. The book is about a young man and his journeys to a remote island where he discovers a commune of travelers already living there surviving almost solely off the land. But this was no ordinary beach. This beach, was a beach of all beaches. A beach with a beautiful lagoon completely isolated from the rest of the ocean and thus the rest of the world. Ever since I read this wonderful novel, I have longed for such a place in my fantasies assuming that no such place could ever exist anywhere but. At last, tharrr she is. Only in my wildest dreams have I seen such a place, and only in my most far fetched fantasies have I dreamed of doing what french explorer and adventurer Xavier Rosset is about to embark on. A 300 day trip to live alone on a remote tropical island in the South Pacific where he will take only a swiss army knife, a machete, and a video camera accompanied with a solar panel to re-charge the camera that he will use to film a 52 minute documentary. All in total seclusion without the hassle of dealing with other traveler’s BS. I envy you Xavier and wish you safe journeys as you live out one of my most precious fantasies. I cannot wait to see the documentary. Link…
A supposed UFO video that shows an alive and well Alien is to be shown today to the news media in Denver. Jeff Peckman, who is proposing an “Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission” states that the video is authentic and has convinced him that aliens do in fact exist. However he also states that the public will have to wait to see it as it is being included in a documentary by Stan Romanek. Peckman has stated that an instructor at the Colorado Film School in Denver has determined that the video is authentic. “It shows an extraterrestrials head popping up outside of a window at night, looking in the window, that’s visible through an infrared camera,” Peckman said, “The alien is about 4 feet tall and can be seen blinking”. Wowwww!!!! Thats evidence if I ever hear of such a thing. Shaa Roit, Bring it on Peckman. Lets see this 4 foot tall alien. This better be an HD camera with super digital zoom and even if so, where is the proof in that? Video means nothing to most in this modern age and hence the term “proof” has taken on a virtual meaning and is used far too loosely in my opinion. The fact that you will not show the public until the “documentary” is released reminds me of a scam I saw many years ago. Ill give you a hint, it rhymes with shmlair witch project. Sounds like spam to me, but hey, anythings possible. Link…
Mozilla is attempting to set a new world record for most unique downloads in 24 hours of their latest release of Firefox 3. Seeing as how there is currently no record the the Guinness World Records organization for most software downloaded in 24 hours, they should stand a good chance at being the first should Guinness World Records accept their submittal. Mozilla will host a worldwide download day which has not been announced yet. So far, at the time of this post, 258,149 people have pledged to download the latest version 3 release on download day. You can make your pledge here. Follow the link at the end of this post to access the “Spread Firefox” site in which Mozilla says they will soon post the release date. Link…

When we caught wind of “The Worlds Largest Self Portrait” in all of the headlines about a week ago, we were reluctant to post anything about it right away as a result of our ever growing skepticism. The first thing that came to mind, was how easy it would be to fake such a thing, and the second was, who the hell would fork out the dough to do this. Well it turns out that for once, our cynical nature paid off in saving us the embarrassment of retracting a post like that of many other feed networks titled “WORLDS BIGGEST SELF PORTRAIT - OMG!!!!!” In a recent article posted today by Wired, they state that the Artist Admits He Didn’t Actually Use
GPS and DHL to Create ‘Biggest Drawing in the World’. To quote Wired’s article “Yep, it’s a fake. The artist has added a line to the bottom of his webpage stating “”This is fictional work. DHL did not transport the GPS at any time.”" And DHL confirmed that Nordenenkar never went any further than a warehouse the company allowed him to film in.”
We would have been more impressed if someone had done this with an etch-a-sketch. Link…

I can remember as a kid (and still sometimes as an adult) how we used to submerge ourselves in the swimming pool and take turns shouting obscenities at one another guessing if we could understand what the other said. It was back then we realized that sound really traveled quite well under water and if it were not for all the bubbles, we probably would have understood what each other were saying. Times like that made me long for some sort of speaker that would play music under the water while we swam as we probably spent more time under the water than out. Well between the RC Cooler and now the Grace Audio Weatherproof Submersible
Wireless Speaker,
all my poolside dreams have come true. This little
gadget
can be hooked into just about any audio source up to 150 feet away for up to 6 hours on a single charge and can have up to ten speakers total. All for a modest price of around $150 and $99 for each additional speaker. Link…

I’m sure everyone remembers the ol’ Metallica vs Napster fiasco back in the day. Well turns out they have done a 180 (err more like a 145) and have finally embraced the Digital Music Revolution. Oh wait, that already happened. Day late and a billion dollars short if you ask me. This goes to show how big of sluts these guys are. And trust me, back in the day there was no bigger Metallica fan than this guy typing this to you now. However since the bands releases of the disgrace that they called “Load” and “Re-Load” (st. anger doesn’t even count as an album) and Lars throwing his lisp all over the headlines about Napster, I had never felt so betrayed as a fan by a band in my life. Any half witted geek at the time saw the digital music’s revolution coming a million miles away and many even tried to warn them of the consequences of fighting something they knew absolutely nothing about. Still they persisted. Now they have done a half spin and have started “Mission Metallica” in which they are offering fans a chance to “experience the new album before it’s done” and will offer the new album in unprotected mp3 format to users to try and somewhat redeem themselves. They still however will not offer it for free as you must sign up to have access. Some might say that they are just finally coming around and thats totally cool, but ever since I saw an old video clip of Hetfield holding up a record of “Kill em All” telling the fans below to get it any way they can, steal it, copy it, etc… and then then to turn around and try to punish those very same fans that helped them build one of the hugest radio less legacies ever, I have come to the conclusion that this band will change its philosophy at any moment based on the allmighty dollar instead of the allmighty heart. Sorry boys, but “Mission Failed” a long time ago. As far as I am concerned, this group has no right to even touch an unprotected mp3. This is just my stupid opinion and I will always be willing to give tribute to the fact that Metallica were pioneers once upon a time and my neck still hurts from all the head banging I have done to their music. Just a band who lost their way.

If you are traveling internationally, you may want to leave your digital anythings home on your next trip. The ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) was proposed some time ago and recently leaked to WikiLeaks. From what I understand, if passed, the act will give border patrol agents the right to search your digital apparatuses for pirated or illegal copies of digital products such as songs or movies. You can view a PDF of the proposed agreement here and it is also mirrored here.Link…

If you are like me and live in an old house without central heating and cooling, then you know how horrible these heat waves can be. Even with a window mount AC sometimes it is just not enough and I am always wishing I had some alternative way to cool the back of the house down where a window mount is out of the question. Assorted Tips has a great DIY project for creating your own AC unit for a total cost of somewhere around $35-$45 assuming you have some scrap wood laying around the house. Check it out. Link….
Yet another almost genius invention to file in the slightly stupid/useless category. We will give this one an E for effort however we must chalk this one up as elegant but useless. We do this for two main reasons.
1) Who in the hell cannot finish a 12 oz. soda?
2) Most importantly, Have you ever seen the top of a soda can? If one were to use this little device, you might as well grab a little dirt and throw it down in there while you are at it to help sterilize it. Just imagine that after one swig off that puppy, all that soda is going back all over the top of the can and back into your drink. Ewwwwwww
